Gardnerville, NV - Wa She Shu Casino will mark its grand opening at 10AM on Thursday,  May 26th, at 1003 US Highway 395 North in Gardnerville. The grand opening ceremony will include a blessing of the ground by a Washoe Tribal Elder, an introduction of dignitaries, a performance by the Washoe color guard, and the official ribbon cutting.

The Wa She Shu, meaning “The People’s Place”, is located adjacent to the Wa She Shu travel plaza which the tribe opened earlier this year in partnership with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PBCI). The casino offers a hometown atmosphere, 360 degree views of the Sierra Mountains and designated areas for trucks and RVs with lighted off-street parking.

The 13,500 square foot facility has a gaming floor that covers 4,600 square feet and features 130 new and exciting games. The restaurant and bar cover 1,500 square feet. The restaurant seats 80 guests and serves classic American fare. An additional 4,000 square feet of space is designated for future expansion of the gaming floor.

About 70 new jobs will be created by casino operations in addition to the initial construction jobs that were created. The revenues from the casino will provide funding for essential services for the Washoe tribal members, including infrastructure needs and healthcare. The complete project investment totaled an estimated $8 million.

The Wa She Shu casino marks only the second time that the Poarch Band of Creek Indians has partnered with another tribe on a gaming project, as well as the Washoe Tribe’s first casino endeavor.
“Opening a casino and partnering with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians of Poarch, Alabama is another step toward the Washoe Tribe’s long term goal of economic self-sufficiency,” remarked Neil Mortimer, Washoe Tribal Chair. “The Washoe Tribe is excited about the partnership and is pleased to create job opportunities for Tribal members as well as local residents. The partnership between the Washoe Tribe and Poarch Band of Creek Indians of Alabama is the first of its kind. The Washoe Tribe is excited to partner with Poarch Band of Creek Indians and is looking forward to increasing the gaming and dining experience in the Carson Valley for its residents and visitors. “

Stephanie Bryan, Chairwoman of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians said, “We believe that it is part of our obligation, as Indian people, to support others in their efforts to secure financial security. We were thrilled that we can play a role in making sure that the Washoe Tribe can use their land to better the lives of their tribal members.”

Wind Creek Montgomery has partnered with AMBUCS Montgomery River Region chapter and AmTryke to facilitate the AmTryke adaptive bicycle program for people with special needs. Wind Creek Montgomery was able to donate $3,572.66 to this worthy cause. The mission of the National AMBUCS non-profit organization is to create mobility and independence for people with disabilities, and AmTryke helps them do that. Nearly every one of the 144 AMBUCS chapters chooses to carry out their mission, at least in part, by providing AmTryke therapeutic tricycles to people with special needs in their community. Through this donation, AMBUCS was able to provide for 7 small bikes and 1 large bike.

One of those bikes went to a special recipient, A.J. Thanks to AMBUCS and the donation from Wind Creek Montgomery, A.J. will finally be able to learn to ride a bike along with his little brother. His mother, Candice Peden, said “Thank you Wind Creek and their customers for their generosity.  We appreciate the donation of the bike and know that you have done us a huge favor in this gift.”
